GET TO KNOW PHIL
I proudly attended…
The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Most people don’t know that…
I had a summer job during college assisting with autopsies.
I’ve carried a handkerchief in my back pocket my whole life – you never know when someone’s gonna get a bloody nose.
My Thanksgiving go-to dishes are matzo stuffing and sweet potato soufflé.
At my funeral reception, they should serve…
Pizza, king crab legs and grilled ribeye steaks from AJ’s.
And the playlist should be…
Crosby Stills Nash, Sinatra, Nirvana, James Taylor and BB King (The Thrill is Gone).
When I go to the movies, I like to eat…
Sno Caps and my salty snack would be popcorn with lots of butter. But I’d rather skip the snacks and go out for pizza afterwards instead.
On the weekends, I can be found…
Watching sports, especially football.
Cooking, grilling, marinating – I like to eat so I learned to cook as a child.
Working out at the gym, working in the yard or going hiking.
My top pet peeves are…
Rude, condescending or dishonest people.
When people throw stuff in the trash instead of recycling.
Divas, princesses and famous people with no discernible talent.
Having to get dressed up.
I am a huge sucker for…
Sad movies.
My favorite book of all time is…
The Clan of the Cave Bear is a fascinating story of early man, resourcefulness, survival, gender roles and relationships. Only after I got hooked did I realize it was part of a 6-book series, each one about 700 pages long.
Personal mantras I follow…
It’s not who you know, it’s who knows the best place to eat.
Work hard and create your own success.
A sense of humor can take you far in life (and make it a lot more fun).
You can’t change what already happened, but you can change how you look at it.
You can learn something valuable from every experience in your life.
Things I’ve always wondered…
Why don’t National League pitchers spend more time working on their hitting? They represent one-ninth of the batting order, so if they actually contributed more hitting, it would make a huge difference.
How come organic foods are the special exception and the ones filled with pesticides and chemicals are accepted as the norm?
I wanted to work in marketing because…
I always appreciated good advertising. Even as a kid, I felt I knew when a marketer got it right, made it relevant, made it memorable.
I like being part of the Nucleus team because…
We work hard, have fun and make a difference for our clients.
My favorite quotes from clients are…
“I don’t have any input but I’m sure you guys will do your magic.”
“Do you want to go with me to the playoff game? You do? Okay good, the tickets are $100.”
Marketing mantra that I follow…
If you can’t explain it simply to a non-marketing person and have them get it, then it’s probably not a good idea.
My hometown…
Of Irvington, New Jersey has the highest crime rate in the state of New Jersey. I’d probably be a lot tougher if we hadn’t moved when I was a kid.
