BIOGRAPHY
Prior to joining Nucleus Marketing Lab, Matt spent the previous 15 years leading B2C and B2B market research efforts for research firms and large organizations. From small scale point-in-time surveys to large tracking studies and segmentation initiatives, Matt is passionate about delivering actionable insights that drive businesses forward. In other words, he is to actionable marketing research what Charlie Daniels was to a fiddle. Matt has led research for numerous major brands, including PetSmart, Walmart, Sam’s Club, CenturyLink, Meritage Homes, Boston Consulting Group, ESPN, and DexOne.
A one-time classic rock deejay, Matt is a graduate of Monmouth University and holds an MBA from Regis University. He lives in Peoria with his wife, two children, two dogs, a hedgehog named Rerun and several charming tropical fish. Final random fact: Matt says, “As it turns out” a lot. Seriously.
GET TO KNOW MATT
I proudly attended…
Monmouth University and Regis University.
Most people don’t know that…
I can operate a forklift very well.
I worked on air as a rock radio disk jockey.
I used to pole vault.
At my funeral reception, they should serve…
Pizza, juicy steaks, and hot dogs.
And the playlist should be…
Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bela Fleck, and P-Funk.
When I go to the movies, I like to eat…
M&Ms (probably a symptom of too many focus groups).
On the weekends, I can be found…
Grilling, doing yard work or DIY home repairs, turning trinkets on the lathe.
My top pet peeves are…
Those that have trouble merging onto the highway.
When the snow plough plows in your freshly shoveled driveway (which has not been a problem so far in the Phoenix area).
I am a huge sucker for…
Dogs, tropical fish, and most 70’s and 80’s sitcoms.
My favorite book of all time is…
Mayflower, which is a detailed account of the Pilgrim’s experience landing in America. It is an incredibly dramatic and action-packed story with a lot of details they don’t teach you in school.
Personal mantras I follow…
Every day I wake up is a good day.
Things I’ve always wondered…
What my dogs are dreaming about when they “run” in their sleep?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
I wanted to work in marketing because…
Trying to figure out what drives customer decision making and behavior is endlessly fascinating.
I like being part of the Nucleus team because…
We help clients make the best decisions possible by delivering high-quality and highly-actionable insights.
My favorite quotes from clients are…
“I never say ‘unfortunately.’ Rather I say ‘As it turns out…’. It sounds a lot more positive when delivering bad news.”
Marketing mantra that I follow…
That which gets measured gets done.
If I worked retail, it would be at…
PetSmart. I did work there and then came full circle and worked in the corporate marketing insights department.
My hometown…
of Middletown, NJ is one of the oldest settlements in the state.
Before I leave this Earth I want to…
Have a few more personal items at my desk so Steve will stop calling my work space austere.
